Brb, just watching Tobias Menzies read ‘When You Are Old’ for the hundredth time.  As I said to @blasted-heath, in my semi-absence from Tumblr and its Terror gifs I seem to have lost my built-up immunity to his face so I’m now crushing on him all over again, it is A Lot.

Hey, I’m almost too late to the party and I’ve nothing new to offer so I’m just going to reblog the story I posted this time last year for Terror 12 Days of Carnivale, because it’s sappy and wintery and still embarrassingly close to my heart. Happy New Year to all Terrors and others from me and two old married fool explorers.

Reblogging this with the stupidest grin on my face because the awesome @blasted-heath has alerted me to the fact that there exists on Twitter a clip of the poem I took this title from (When You Are Old by W. B. Yeats) being read aloud by TOBIAS. MENZIES.  I’m dead.  Dead and gone.

I know Tumblr can be crabby about links so I won’t post the link, but if you search the #APoemforEveryAutumnDay tag on Twitter you’ll find it.  And it’s a promo for a group reading that’s part of the all-online Edinburgh Book Festival on Sunday, I know what I’m doing with my Sunday afternoon!

I’m here this evening specifically to say that I caught a bit of the snooker final the other night, and while musing idly on the fact that I don’t follow snooker at all yet still love the aesthetic of it - the elegance of the table and the game, the hushed audience, the timelessness of it and most of all the way the players dress, the absolutely peak iconic look of black trousers, white shirt and fancy as hell silk-backed waistcoat - I was visited by a most excellent idea, and that idea was this:

Jopson/Little snooker AU.

Imagine it though.  The clothes seem to fit their old-fashioned dress uniform vibe and the venerable history of snooker frees up a whole range of time periods.  Thomas Jopson as the deadpan working-class hero who has wiped out all opposition to meet elite but modest reigning champion Edward Little in the final.  Imagine the quiet of the match, the tension, the murmuring of the commentator, the stares across the table, the ridiculous shots, THE WAISTCOATS.

(Jopson wins.  Then, uh, they both do.)

Going to just go right ahead and tag @arcticelves and @lafiametta because they make the pretty words and gifsets and I have no shame.

Old Guard fans, do you see this glorious Joe & Nicky shirt design by Leandro Fernandez, the artist for the comic book?  I found it on his Instagram here and the direct link is here. I’m in love.

BELARUS NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT

Across the country they’re blocking Internet connections, protesters came out for a PEACEFUL protest to defend their voice and their right. People are tired of this dictator. Polling stations across the country publicly announced the results of voting to residents of these areas, and almost everywhere Svetlana is the winner. But officially, government representatives declare that 80% of the population SUPPORTS LUKASHENKO. This is not true. Our television and all media resources spread terrible and untrue information, calling the protesters bandits and accusing them of causing injuries to law enforcement officials. In fact, the police and all the armed forces last night used rubber bullets in all the cities of Belarus (this has never been used in the country before), water cannons, stun grenades, and so on. The President himself today brazenly lied and said that the police and others used rubber bullets only once. But according to unofficial data, more than 50 people are in hospitals with wounds, burns and other injuries.
